Home Sweet Home

20130201-201647.jpg

Ahhhhhh…..home sweet home. You know the feeling, right? As much as I love being in Disney, it’s kind of nice to be back home. While I didn’t miss this extremely cold and snowy weather, it’s nice to see our pets and home again. We had absolutely perfect weather while in Disney. Every day was in the 70’s and even the mid 80’s with a nice breeze. Just perfect. It only rained once for 15 minutes so that was nice. We had a great time. I think the inlaws had a great time too! We went pretty hard in the parks and they seemed to keep up just fine! We ate so much food….I’m actually dreading Monday when I have to put a leotard on. Sigh.

I mentioned a while back that I was going to be doing a “project” while in Disney involving my pointe shoes. Well, I did what I wanted to do, it just didn’t go as planned. I took some “ballet” pictures while in Epcot one afternoon for this blog. I’m hoping to be able to use some of them. I didn’t take my pointe shoes into the park, I’m actually barefoot for most pictures. I tried some pictures with my pointe shoes on at the resort, but they didn’t turn out good at all. I was really bummed. Hopefully I can use some of the ones I did get in Epcot. I will be posting them soon!!

Speaking of pointe shoes….the ones I ordered before I left arrived while I was gone. I also ordered some new canvas ballet slippers to try. The canvas slippers appear to be the correct size, so I’m hoping these will work better for me than those other Bloch ones I tried. The new ones are called Bloch Pro Elastic. I also ordered a new pair of Gaynor Mindens. I was determined in my mind that I needed a softer shank for my bum ankle. I tried them on both feet and to my surprise they feel good. At least for now! I got the Supple shank which is actually two shanks down from the one I have now (hard). After this last pair not fitting properly at all after I sewed everything on, I’m really unsure about these. I can’t make another $100 mistake. The ones I’m selling on eBay have still not sold. I’m not sure what to do. It’s so frustrating. These new ones feel surprisingly good on both feet. After being told I wore through the hard shank much faster than I should I’m worried about putting my left foot in a Supple shank. I’m afraid it won’t be strong enough. But it feels good?! I dunno. Dilemmas, dilemmas.

Anyway…I’m excited to return back to ballet classes this week. I’ve missed it!! I’m expecting to be a little off, so I’m just going to try my best. That’s all I can do!! Here are a few more Disney pictures!! Enjoy the sunshine through them! I know I am 🙂

Hello From Disney!

Well hello there!! We’ve officially spent our first full day in Disney. The weather is just amazing. The sun has been out and the temps are 67-72. Just perfect! I am definitely NOT missing the subzero temps and snow back home. Tomorrow is our last day alone….the inlaws arrive Friday afternoon! I’m so excited to experience Disney with them.

Last night we did our “Drinking Around the World” in the World Showcase at EPCOT. Here’s how it’s played: There is an interactive detective game starring Perry the Platypus from the Disney Channel. You begin by picking up a cell phone at a booth. You pick a country to start in and off you go. The phone is preset with instructions and videos. It leads you to interactive sets within each country’s pavilion. You have to search for the buildings or items pictured or described and then the phone activates the item and usually something moves or sings or talks. It’s cute. How do you turn it into a fun activity for adults?? Add alcohol!! The goal: you get a beer, shot, or mixed drink at EVERY country pavilion. You must finish said beverage before you complete all the tasks in the Detective Game. Sounds easy, right?! Well, there are 11 countries! That’s a lot of drinks!! Needless to say, we only made it through 6 countries. It’s a lot of fun. I highly recommend trying it if you ever visit!!

Well, it’s getting late and we gotta be up early tomorrow to hit the parks. Here’s a couple pics of the fun so far 🙂

One More Day!!!

Where the heck have I been?!? Even I have no clue! Hah! This past week has been crazy busy getting ready for our trip. Only one more day! Eeeeekkkkk! I can’t believe this trip is finally here. Now, the only thing standing between me, a dole whip in my mouth, and my feet up riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover is one 10 hour work day for the husband and……a snow storm?!?!? Apparently THE coldest day to Cleveland happens to be the same day we are flying to Disney. Oh and on top of single digit temps…..lets throw in some lake effect snow! What?!? Yes. Lake effect snow from tomorrow morning until Wednesday. Perfect timing Mother Nature. Sheesh. Lets just keep our fingers (and toes!) crossed that our flight is not delayed and that we arrive safely in Orlando. I will try to blog as much as I can while there. If not on here look to my Instagram pics! You can find me at disneyballerina or follow my tweets @disneyballet.

My pointe shoes will be making the trip to Disney! Gasp! What’s that you say?!? What do I need my pointe shoes for in Disney?! You will just have to wait and see 😉

Oh ya…I’m still selling my other Gaynor Mindens that did not fit on eBay. Pease take a look or forward to someone who might need them! Thanks 🙂

Speaking of dance….my ballet classes are in recital mode now full swing!! Every class has started their recital dance now. They are going to be absolutely spectacular! I cannot wait. The only class that has not started yet is my pointe class, but my teacher assured me she wouldn’t start on it until I got back. I’m going to be in 4 different dances this year. Such a huge step up from the pathetic performance I did last year. Not that I was pathetic, heck I was really good. Our teacher was pathetic and did not want us dancing at all. She was not a good teacher. So our recital dance was so boring and super super easy and beginner-esque. This year I’m actually dancing and it feels amazing. I even got complimented in class this past week that the emotion my face shows was right on! Super yay! That made me feel so good.

Sorry I haven’t been around, but I hope you all stick around to see my adventures in Disney coming up these next 2 weeks!! I apologize now for the massive amounts of pictures on Instagram and Twitter if you do follow me. My little iPhone will definitely get a work out over this trip.
Like I mentioned before, please follow me on Instagram at disneyballerina and on Twitter @disneyballet if you want to see my vacation through my pics! I am SO excited to see the new Fantasyland! I cannot wait to see my favorite fireworks at the Castle at night. And I cannot wait to eat dole whips!

Disneyballerina signing out….see you in Orlando 🌞☀🌈✈

The Long Awaited Envelope

20121226-144533.jpg

With all the holiday busyness this past weekend I forgot to post this!! These pretty babies arrived in the mail and that only means one thing!!!!!

It’s less than 45 days until Disney. 26 days to be exact!! Woooo hooooo!!! I cannot freakin wait. It’s going to be awesome. So now that Christmas is over, I can officially start getting things ready for our trip. I got a boat load of Disney pins for Christmas to use for trading in the parks. Score! I just need to figure out which snacks we are packing, clothing, and most importantly….getting our Disney Dream Reward Dollars card together. That puppy will allow me some serious shopping while down there. So pumped.

I hope everyone had a great holiday week with their families and friends. I know I did!! I will be posting some of my gifts on here soon! Lots of Disney games and other awesome gifts 🙂

Today’s THE Day!!!

Today is the day!!!! I’m seeing the Nutcracker tonight!!!! I’m beyond thrilled. The Cleveland Orchestra is playing too, which makes this an amazing show. I read an article online that said something about Joffrey Ballet Company wanting to maybe continue a partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra!! That would mean hopefully more ballet performances brought to Cleveland!! I cannot wait to see, and hear, this amazing production tonight. I’m pretty sure my mouth will be dropped open the entire show in awe. That, and I’ll be saying hey, that’s a passé!! Ohhhh that’s Ana amazing number of pirouettes and fouettés!! Her coupé is amazing!! That pas de deux was stunning. My husband will probably want to strangle me by the end of the show. Hah!! I encourage everyone out there to go and see a live ballet if you have the opportunity. The costumes will be stunning, the music beautiful, and the dancing exquisite. I really wish more ballets came to Cleveland.

On another happy note…..only 53 days until Disney!! I can’t believe how fast it is coming up. I’m ready for some Florida sun, hopefully it’s not freezing when we are there!! 🏰🎠🎢☀

Getting the Christmas tree tomorrow too. Yay!!!! 🎄🎅🎁

Happy Dancing!!

I Am the Disney Planning Queen!!!

I don’t like to toot my own horn but I rock at Disney planning. In fact, I think I’m pretty amazing at it. I recently booked our trip along with my inlaws. We wanted to stay at the new Art of Animation resort in the Little Mermaid rooms. A discount released for Disney Visa cardholders came out last week. I called Disney and got some pricing for our trips. For us the adding the dining plan cost us more than we would save with the 25% room discount. By getting the discount I saved our entire party about $500 on our room/tickets. Pretty awesome if you ask me! Only catch with it was that unfortunately it was not valid for the Art of Animation resort in the Little Mermaid rooms. Sigh. Next time I guess.

Then this past Sunday I looked up airfare costs again. They originally started out at like $281 a person round trip. Then they increased to $331 a person, decreased back to $281, and then back up to the $331 as of Sunday. I was just not feeling it. I kept telling myself to hold off. Then last night, on Tuesday, I figured I would take a look. I almost fell out of my seat. There on the page it said $151 a person round trip. Holy. Freaking. Crap. I double checked to make sure I had the correct airports and travel dates. Yup. I could not believe it. I added our rental car on, which came to only $253 for a full size for 10 days. Double awesome. I booked it as fast as I could still secretly fearing this was some glitch in their system. I booked all 4 of our airfares for this price. I saved our family a total of $1100 on this trip so far. That’s practically another week in Disney right there!! I was then on one of my “Disney highs” for the rest of the evening. In fact, I still am tonight!!

When planning for a trip to Disney, or any trip in general, it really does literally pay off to plan in advance. We knew exactly what we wanted and where to look for it. I scoured the Disney website and my email inbox daily looking for promotions. I checked Orbitz almost daily for airfare. I recommend researching Disney long in advance and get a feel for the place. Explore resort options and see what the parks have to offer. Think about what works best for your family. And be practical. Don’t just pick somewhere to stay simply because it “looks cool”. Consider distance from parks, size of resort, the pool, food options, and type of transportation around Disney. If you have small children and know you will need to frequent the resort for naps, a swim break, change of clothes, snacks, then pick a resort that’s close to the parks. Research the Disney bus lines if you choose not to have a rental car. Consider strollers. Preparing like this in advance will only save you stress in the parks.

So here’s our updated Disney trip info:

10 Day Park Hopper Passes
Pop Century Resort with a preferred room
Full Size rental car

105 days until we land in the happiest place on earth!!

Introducing…..ME!!

I’ve been tossing around the idea for the past week or so about using my name in this blog. When I worked as a dental hygienist for a company, I felt the need to be anonymous in my blog. Now that I no longer work there I feel like I can be a little more personable now. I also figure that with my blog being linked to my Twitter account you all can see where I go and what not. So here we go!!

My name is Ashley and I’m 25 years old (almost 26, yikes!). I live in Ohio but I’m originally from Pennsylvania. I met my husband while in dental hygiene school. He was a dental student. We have 4 furry children. A doggy named Kya and 3 kitties named Oreo, Penny Lane, and Sophie. We don’t have any children yet. We’ve been married for just about 2 years now. I plan on posting more pictures of me and my family now. Watch out world, here I am!!

I am a super Disney fanatic. I love all things Disney. My husband and I have been down there 4 times together and are going back in January with his parents. It’s such a magical, fun place that we just love. People may say its cheesy or how many times do you need to go down there? I can’t explain it. My husband gets it. Disney World just has a special place in my heart. Maybe it’s all the great memories I’ve had there. It just feels like home when I’m there.

I take ballet now as an adult for exercise and recreation. I took ballet, tap, and jazz (and started pointe) when I was little. I danced from when I was 3-12. I’ve always loved dancing. At weddings, night clubs, bars…..pretty much anytime I hear music I can’t help but start dancing. It’s always been a part of me. I take about 6 hours of ballet class now. I also started doing pointe. I absolutely love the studio I’m at now and my teacher. She is amazing. She is a former professional ballet dancer. I love listening to her stories of being in the company and what it was like to dance professionally. The girls in the class are also great. There’s only 1-2 other adults there, the rest are kids 9-16 years old.

Please share with me, if you want, who you are!! I love reading other blogs of people who also dance and who love Disney!! How long have you danced? Are you new to dancing? What are your goals? Do you love Disney? Have you experienced the happiest place on earth? Are you a crazy Disney planner? I want to hear your stories!! Please share!! I’m always looking for new blogs to follow and new people to meet!!
