Exciting News!!

I have exciting news!!! As you all know, I’m a huge Disney fan. Like completely obsessed. I talk about it at least once a day. I love learning and reading new things about anything involving Disney. So when I had the opportunity to become a contributor for a Disney blog, I had to jump on it!! There’s a blog known as WDW FanZone that is run from WordPress. There’s a family of contributors that all write about anything Disney every month. I also follow this blog on twitter, and this past week the man who runs the site, Stuart Sternberg, tweeted a message looking for anyone interested in becoming a contributor! I immediately responded and got in contact with Stuart. He said he liked what he saw here on my blog and offered me the opportunity to join their family of writers! So that’s right folks….yours truly is one of the new contributors for WDW FanZone!! I’m so excited about this opportunity!!! I’ve already started making a list of topics I want to write about. For right now I only need to write one article per month, so this is definitely manageable. I’ll be re-blogging my posts I do there on this blog too, so keep your eyes open! My first topic will be posted around the end of May.

I also have more exciting news!! I mentioned in my last post that I was beginning to train for a half marathon. Well, I’m almost positive that this half marathon will be happening for me! Only downside…I have to be ready in about 9 weeks. Tough, but not impossible. I completed all my scheduled runs for last week, so I’m off to a good start. I just need to figure out my shoe problems and I’ll be all set. The exciting thing about this half marathon?? It’s in Seattle. We have friends that live in Seattle, so we would be staying with them. This half marathon is part of a series of runs put on by a company called Rock n Roll Marathon Series. They seem awesome. Live bands play at every mile during the race, and there is a concert at the end! And you get these amazing rock n roll themed medals for completing the races. You even get bonus medals if you complete 2+ of their events within a year. I’m always up for a challenge so my goal is to complete 3 half marathons by October with this series. This would earn me not only the 3 race event medals, but an additional 2 awesome medals for completing multiple races. I can’t pass this up. It’s just too awesome. I never thought I would like running so much. But I’m so happy I do. I feel such a great feeling of accomplishment every time I cross the finish line or run my farthest distance. I may not be the fastest person out there, but I finish every race I do. And I enjoy every minute of it 🙂

Ballet Pictures in Disney

This was my secret project!!! I didn’t say anything before doing this on here because I wanted it to be a surprise!! So here are some of the pictures I did while in Disney that are ballet related. Major thanks to my inlaws and husband for giving me the time to do these and for helping take the pictures. Thank you!!

I didn’t get to do as many with my pointe shoes as I would have liked, but I got some good pictures in the end. I ended up being too shy to take my pointe shoes into the parks with me! So that is why I am barefoot! Hah! I’m hoping to be able to do this again whenever we go back some day. It was fun! Hope you enjoy 🙂

I Am a Master Sorcerer!!!

I am a Master Sorcerer. That’s right, you heard me. I became a master sorcerer while in Disney World. How do you become a master sorcerer you ask? Well let me explain.

Sorcerer of the Magic Kingdom Game

1. First off, you go to the Fire Dept building in Magic Kingdom. There is a large banner that hangs there asking for volunteers to help defeat evil villains and become a master sorcerer. I couldn’t pass this up. You go in the building and there are a few cast members there ready to get you started. All you need is your park ticket (or Key to the World card if you are staying on property). They have an example “portal” here where they demonstrate what you need to do. When you first sign up, they swipe your park ticket and formally register you in their system. They dispense a master Key Card (don’t ever lose it!!), a map showing where all the portals are located, and a pack of cards (5). They walk you over to their demonstration portal and show you how to activate your game. You simply place your key card, which has some kind of RFID sensor in it, on this lock reader. It activates the portal to turn on. Merlin is your guide and he explains how you play. You simply will follow the queues on the screen. When they tell you to “cast a spell” you simply just hold up one of your spell cards you received in your pack.

2. There are four different areas of the park that have portals in which the game is played. Fantasyland, Main Street, Adventureland, and Liberty Square/Frontierland. Your map shows you where each portal is located by a symbol. When you are done at a portal, it will show you the next symbol to let you know which portal is up next. I sometimes had to go back and forth from one portal to another a few times. That kind of got annoying, but whatever.

3. There are villains that you must defeat within each area of the park on the map. It usually took about 3-4 portal visits per villain. There are 10 villains total. You have to beat all 9 before you are given the big boss. Here are the areas with their respective villains. You must defeat:

Adventureland: Jafar, Scar, and Yzma

Fantasyland: Maleficent and Ursula

Main Street: Cruella

Frontierland/Liberty Square: Dr. Facilier, Ratcliffe, and Chernabog (Hades is the ultimate big boss).

4. Every day you visit Magic Kingdom you can return back to the Fire Dept where you signed up, and they will issue you a new pack of cards. A hint: take everyone in your party’s park ticket and have them swipe it. They will ask if these people are playing with you on a “team” or if they want to play individually. If nobody else wants to play, just tell the cast member they are playing with you on a team. You can get a 5 pack of cards per family member’s card. Super awesome way to collect a bulk set of cards. You will get a lot of repeats, but it’s worth it to try for the ones you haven’t gotten yet.

5. This game is completely free. I know, wow, right?! Something free at Disney?? This game is free to play to anyone entering the park. There are 10 super rare cards that you cannot get by free packs in the park. You have to buy a card pack in the store there and out of the 10 cards you purchase (which you most likely will already have) you get 1 super rare card. So you are basically paying $16 to get one card. I chose not to buy any packs. To begin playing the game, you really don’t “need” them. So this means there are 60 cards you can get from the free packs. After my 10 day trip down there, I came home still needing 12 of the 60 regular cards. I have a ton of duplicates.

6. There are three levels of this game. I was not told this when I originally signed up. In fact, I had to look up online what the different spell cards meant and what not. I was curious after watching other people playing why they were doing certain things. When you first sign up, you automatically start on level 1, or easy. On the first level your spell cards don’t actually matter in the game. You will be able to defeat the villains without paying attention to the cards. I had to research what the other levels meant. The medium and hard levels basically are the same villains again, just harder to beat each time. The type of spell you use, and/or combine, matters a lot. You can be defeated and will have to replay the villain until your spell is powerful enough. Much more complicated.

7. You can combine spell cards. I was not told this, I just learned this from looking online and watching other people play. On the easy level though, it appears you can only combine 2 cards at a time. I was watching other people playing hold up 3+ cards at a time. Super cool.

8. The portals are cleverly disguised. They blend right in with the decor and unless you knew about it, you might not even notice them. There is a screen that lights up and 2 cameras you can see that read the cards. There is also the lock piece that you hold your key card up to. I was even told by someone down there that a guy had written his own app for his iPad that allowed him to store the pictures if the cards on there. And when he held that up the cameras were still able to read it correctly. Super amazing. I want that app! So that proves that those cameras are actually looking at the spell card to know which one it is. Technology is amazing.

9. This game is very time consuming. The little video clips they show you at each portal are cute, but they definitely take up a lot of time. Especially when there is a line of people waiting. My husband got a little antsy waiting around for me. This game could take up a lot of riding time, so be aware.

10. I was able to defeat all the villains!! I became a Master Sorcerer!!! And I got gold, which means I played a really good game. I still have to play the medium and hard levels….this could take me years!! My husband even let me buy this awesome tshirt once I won!! This shirt will give you extra power when you pay the game if you are wearing it while you play. Those amazing cameras have something to do with that!!

So, needless to say, I’m addicted. I want to return just to play my game. I’m also determined to try to get all 70 cards. People are selling them on ebay, but they’re super expensive. So we’ll see. I organized all my cards into a small binder. I’m such a nerd!! But that’s what all the “serious sorcerers” were doing down there. I had a lot of fun playing the game, even though it was pretty easy and mindless. I can’t wait to go back someday and play the medium level!!

Home Sweet Home

Ahhhhhh…..home sweet home. You know the feeling, right? As much as I love being in Disney, it’s kind of nice to be back home. While I didn’t miss this extremely cold and snowy weather, it’s nice to see our pets and home again. We had absolutely perfect weather while in Disney. Every day was in the 70’s and even the mid 80’s with a nice breeze. Just perfect. It only rained once for 15 minutes so that was nice. We had a great time. I think the inlaws had a great time too! We went pretty hard in the parks and they seemed to keep up just fine! We ate so much food….I’m actually dreading Monday when I have to put a leotard on. Sigh.

I mentioned a while back that I was going to be doing a “project” while in Disney involving my pointe shoes. Well, I did what I wanted to do, it just didn’t go as planned. I took some “ballet” pictures while in Epcot one afternoon for this blog. I’m hoping to be able to use some of them. I didn’t take my pointe shoes into the park, I’m actually barefoot for most pictures. I tried some pictures with my pointe shoes on at the resort, but they didn’t turn out good at all. I was really bummed. Hopefully I can use some of the ones I did get in Epcot. I will be posting them soon!!

Speaking of pointe shoes….the ones I ordered before I left arrived while I was gone. I also ordered some new canvas ballet slippers to try. The canvas slippers appear to be the correct size, so I’m hoping these will work better for me than those other Bloch ones I tried. The new ones are called Bloch Pro Elastic. I also ordered a new pair of Gaynor Mindens. I was determined in my mind that I needed a softer shank for my bum ankle. I tried them on both feet and to my surprise they feel good. At least for now! I got the Supple shank which is actually two shanks down from the one I have now (hard). After this last pair not fitting properly at all after I sewed everything on, I’m really unsure about these. I can’t make another $100 mistake. The ones I’m selling on eBay have still not sold. I’m not sure what to do. It’s so frustrating. These new ones feel surprisingly good on both feet. After being told I wore through the hard shank much faster than I should I’m worried about putting my left foot in a Supple shank. I’m afraid it won’t be strong enough. But it feels good?! I dunno. Dilemmas, dilemmas.

Anyway…I’m excited to return back to ballet classes this week. I’ve missed it!! I’m expecting to be a little off, so I’m just going to try my best. That’s all I can do!! Here are a few more Disney pictures!! Enjoy the sunshine through them! I know I am 🙂

Hello From Disney!

Well hello there!! We’ve officially spent our first full day in Disney. The weather is just amazing. The sun has been out and the temps are 67-72. Just perfect! I am definitely NOT missing the subzero temps and snow back home. Tomorrow is our last day alone….the inlaws arrive Friday afternoon! I’m so excited to experience Disney with them.

Last night we did our “Drinking Around the World” in the World Showcase at EPCOT. Here’s how it’s played: There is an interactive detective game starring Perry the Platypus from the Disney Channel. You begin by picking up a cell phone at a booth. You pick a country to start in and off you go. The phone is preset with instructions and videos. It leads you to interactive sets within each country’s pavilion. You have to search for the buildings or items pictured or described and then the phone activates the item and usually something moves or sings or talks. It’s cute. How do you turn it into a fun activity for adults?? Add alcohol!! The goal: you get a beer, shot, or mixed drink at EVERY country pavilion. You must finish said beverage before you complete all the tasks in the Detective Game. Sounds easy, right?! Well, there are 11 countries! That’s a lot of drinks!! Needless to say, we only made it through 6 countries. It’s a lot of fun. I highly recommend trying it if you ever visit!!

Well, it’s getting late and we gotta be up early tomorrow to hit the parks. Here’s a couple pics of the fun so far 🙂

One More Day!!!

Where the heck have I been?!? Even I have no clue! Hah! This past week has been crazy busy getting ready for our trip. Only one more day! Eeeeekkkkk! I can’t believe this trip is finally here. Now, the only thing standing between me, a dole whip in my mouth, and my feet up riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover is one 10 hour work day for the husband and……a snow storm?!?!? Apparently THE coldest day to Cleveland happens to be the same day we are flying to Disney. Oh and on top of single digit temps…..lets throw in some lake effect snow! What?!? Yes. Lake effect snow from tomorrow morning until Wednesday. Perfect timing Mother Nature. Sheesh. Lets just keep our fingers (and toes!) crossed that our flight is not delayed and that we arrive safely in Orlando. I will try to blog as much as I can while there. If not on here look to my Instagram pics! You can find me at disneyballerina or follow my tweets @disneyballet.

My pointe shoes will be making the trip to Disney! Gasp! What’s that you say?!? What do I need my pointe shoes for in Disney?! You will just have to wait and see 😉

Oh ya…I’m still selling my other Gaynor Mindens that did not fit on eBay. Pease take a look or forward to someone who might need them! Thanks 🙂

Speaking of dance….my ballet classes are in recital mode now full swing!! Every class has started their recital dance now. They are going to be absolutely spectacular! I cannot wait. The only class that has not started yet is my pointe class, but my teacher assured me she wouldn’t start on it until I got back. I’m going to be in 4 different dances this year. Such a huge step up from the pathetic performance I did last year. Not that I was pathetic, heck I was really good. Our teacher was pathetic and did not want us dancing at all. She was not a good teacher. So our recital dance was so boring and super super easy and beginner-esque. This year I’m actually dancing and it feels amazing. I even got complimented in class this past week that the emotion my face shows was right on! Super yay! That made me feel so good.

Sorry I haven’t been around, but I hope you all stick around to see my adventures in Disney coming up these next 2 weeks!! I apologize now for the massive amounts of pictures on Instagram and Twitter if you do follow me. My little iPhone will definitely get a work out over this trip.
Like I mentioned before, please follow me on Instagram at disneyballerina and on Twitter @disneyballet if you want to see my vacation through my pics! I am SO excited to see the new Fantasyland! I cannot wait to see my favorite fireworks at the Castle at night. And I cannot wait to eat dole whips!

Disneyballerina signing out….see you in Orlando 🌞☀🌈✈

Stretch, Baby, Stretch!!

Last night was mostly an unproductive evening. I fell asleep waiting for my husband to get home from work and ended up sleeping for like 2 hours. Fail. I then decided to get all the music on my iPod. My husband was nice enough to download like 300 songs for me. Thanks husband!! Putting what I wanted on my iPod didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would. Once I started listening to the music, I felt motivated to stretch!! Yay!! So I then spent the next 30 minutes stretching to my new tunes and singing to the dog while doing so. I even enlisted my husband to help me stretch. I can slowly start to see the little bits of improvement in my flexibility. I really want to get into a routine of stretching daily. We’ll see what happens. I’m slowly getting more flexible with my saddle wall stretch too. I can see that my feet are a little lower on the wall! Yippie!!

On another good note….41 days until Disney!! That’s almost one month people!! I’m getting super excited. I have some plans to do some ballet inspired projects while in Disney. So stay tuned!! I’m really looking forward to this trip. I can’t wait.

Happy Wednesday Friends!!

And for your viewing pleasure….my reindeer doggy!!
