Ballet Shoes & Mickey Ears

The happenings of this Disney-obsessed runner and dancer!

Hello From Disney!

Well hello there!! We’ve officially spent our first full day in Disney. The weather is just amazing. The sun has been out and the temps are 67-72. Just perfect! I am definitely NOT missing the subzero temps and snow back home. Tomorrow is our last day alone….the inlaws arrive Friday afternoon! I’m so excited to experience Disney with them.

Last night we did our “Drinking Around the World” in the World Showcase at EPCOT. Here’s how it’s played: There is an interactive detective game starring Perry the Platypus from the Disney Channel. You begin by picking up a cell phone at a booth. You pick a country to start in and off you go. The phone is preset with instructions and videos. It leads you to interactive sets within each country’s pavilion. You have to search for the buildings or items pictured or described and then the phone activates the item and usually something moves or sings or talks. It’s cute. How do you turn it into a fun activity for adults?? Add alcohol!! The goal: you get a beer, shot, or mixed drink at EVERY country pavilion. You must finish said beverage before you complete all the tasks in the Detective Game. Sounds easy, right?! Well, there are 11 countries! That’s a lot of drinks!! Needless to say, we only made it through 6 countries. It’s a lot of fun. I highly recommend trying it if you ever visit!!

Well, it’s getting late and we gotta be up early tomorrow to hit the parks. Here’s a couple pics of the fun so far 🙂

One More Day!!!

Where the heck have I been?!? Even I have no clue! Hah! This past week has been crazy busy getting ready for our trip. Only one more day! Eeeeekkkkk! I can’t believe this trip is finally here. Now, the only thing standing between me, a dole whip in my mouth, and my feet up riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover is one 10 hour work day for the husband and……a snow storm?!?!? Apparently THE coldest day to Cleveland happens to be the same day we are flying to Disney. Oh and on top of single digit temps…..lets throw in some lake effect snow! What?!? Yes. Lake effect snow from tomorrow morning until Wednesday. Perfect timing Mother Nature. Sheesh. Lets just keep our fingers (and toes!) crossed that our flight is not delayed and that we arrive safely in Orlando. I will try to blog as much as I can while there. If not on here look to my Instagram pics! You can find me at disneyballerina or follow my tweets @disneyballet.

My pointe shoes will be making the trip to Disney! Gasp! What’s that you say?!? What do I need my pointe shoes for in Disney?! You will just have to wait and see 😉

Oh ya…I’m still selling my other Gaynor Mindens that did not fit on eBay. Pease take a look or forward to someone who might need them! Thanks 🙂

Speaking of dance….my ballet classes are in recital mode now full swing!! Every class has started their recital dance now. They are going to be absolutely spectacular! I cannot wait. The only class that has not started yet is my pointe class, but my teacher assured me she wouldn’t start on it until I got back. I’m going to be in 4 different dances this year. Such a huge step up from the pathetic performance I did last year. Not that I was pathetic, heck I was really good. Our teacher was pathetic and did not want us dancing at all. She was not a good teacher. So our recital dance was so boring and super super easy and beginner-esque. This year I’m actually dancing and it feels amazing. I even got complimented in class this past week that the emotion my face shows was right on! Super yay! That made me feel so good.

Sorry I haven’t been around, but I hope you all stick around to see my adventures in Disney coming up these next 2 weeks!! I apologize now for the massive amounts of pictures on Instagram and Twitter if you do follow me. My little iPhone will definitely get a work out over this trip.
Like I mentioned before, please follow me on Instagram at disneyballerina and on Twitter @disneyballet if you want to see my vacation through my pics! I am SO excited to see the new Fantasyland! I cannot wait to see my favorite fireworks at the Castle at night. And I cannot wait to eat dole whips!

Disneyballerina signing out….see you in Orlando 🌞☀🌈✈

Lazzzzzzy Butt

So I find myself still not flexible. Not a surprise. I have found it difficult to stick with stretching every day. I’ve even tried just stretching for 10-15 minutes a few times a day with no success. I just can’t seem to pull out if this lazy rut with stretching. Maybe I just don’t care to get that flexible? I dunno. I feel like if it was important to me I would find the time to stretch. I got a new foam roller for Christmas which I’ve used a little bit to help relax sore muscles after class. So that’s fun! I even tried my Mary Helen Bowers “Ballet Beautiful” DVD over the holiday break. It was so hard!! I couldn’t keep up and my feet kept sliding on my rug. Personally, I like the workouts she does in the video, but I feel like she rushes through everything so quickly! I couldn’t imagine trying to do these without having an ballet experience. So after feeling so rushed and intimated the first time I tried it, I’ve had a hard time wanting to do it again. Does anyone else feel this way about her workouts!? Or am I just that handiquacked that I can’t keep up?!

Only 11 days until Disney!!! Eeeekkkkk!!!!! We’re almost in the single digits people!!! I cannot wait. Even the husband is super excited. 10 whole days away from reality and in the happiest place n earth! Woo hoo!!!

Tonight is ballet 2 followed by pointe. As I mentioned in my previous post, the ouch pouches actually worked in my Gaynors! I’m hoping the little guys will pull through for me tonight too. We are working hard at our recital dance in our ballet class too. It’s still coming along. We’re about half way through the song. I need major work on my turns, my attitude turns especially. I struggle so much on my left side. I think with my left shoulder being all messed up and having such a limited range of motion, that it hinders me being able to properly do them. Bummer. I just have to keep trying.

The new year is off to a good start for me. I hope it is for all you out there too 🙂

Oh, and PS: I saw that those Nike Studio Wraps will be offered in a red/dark dark pink color too?!?! I might be sold.

Maria Kochetkova

This woman is simply amazing. She is a principal dancer in the San Francisco Ballet, but she is from Russia. You can find a wonderful biography here. I follow her on Twitter at the name @balletrusse. She posted the above videos the past few nights of her recent performance of The Nutcracker at the Mariinsky Theater in Russia. She dances as a guest dancer every now and then. I think she looks exquisite in these videos and did a phenomenal job in this performance. I believe they were performing this show in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the original Nutcracker choreographed and performed at the Mariinsky Theater in 1892. So for a Russian ballerina this must have been such an amazing feeling to be chosen to dance this. If you look up her repertoire you will find an endless list of performances and awards. Other videos of her on youtube are equally as stunning as the above. I wish I could see her perform live. If I ever visit San Francisco, it will definitely happen!! And for anyone that lives in this area, I highly recommend seeing her perform if given the chance. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
