Summer Break!!

Well this week my studio is on summer break. We get one week off and then our fall session begins. I also happen to have this week off from work since I left my job. This week I will be trying out a class at a place called Verb Ballet. They are a community based ballet studio offering 3 different levels for adults. They include Beginner for someone who has little to no ballet experience, Intermediate for someone who has some ballet experience, and Advanced is for someone who has a lot of experience dancing. I will be trying out the Intermediate class. I have no intentions on going here permanently, just something to take up time during my week off and experience something new! I like taking classes at different studios with different instructors. It keeps me on my toes (lol) and I enjoy seeing each person’s perspective of how they teach and what dance means to them.

This past week I had my last class of the summer session. I had a good ballet lesson. I’m really struggling with all turns from my left side. My right side is so solid, but my left side is just frustrating me. If anyone has any pointers on how to improve my left side, other than the obvious of just more practice, I would love to hear it! My pointe class went great!! I’m completely off the barre now!! Huge milestone for me. I was also able to do everything the other girls did in center!! I’m still new to the turns on pointe in center, but I’m getting better every week!! I’m still having some issues with my pointe shoes. They just don’t feel right on my feet and they are nice and broken in. So tomorrow I will be going down to another dance store with my teacher and fellow student to try on other shoes. I’m very excited!! I’m really hoping to find a pair I like. Right now I have Bloch Sonatas.

In other news this week, I will also be taking a little exam to hopefully get me a part time job at the local hospital as a nursing aide. Even if it’s just a couple shifts per month, I want to get as much experiences I can before I start nursing school. And then at the end of the week my husband and I are going with his parents on a little camping adventure!! Our doggy will be coming with us and we will be staying in a cottage since the inlaws don’t do camping in tents. We’re hoping to swim, cook out, fish, hike, kayak, and eat in the fancy dining lodge!! I’m sure there will be many pictures posted on Instagram and Twitter!!!

Hope everyone has a great week!! Enjoy the last little bit of summer while you still can!!

Pain is Beauty

Today was not a good day. I started my day off at 5:30am, didn’t make coffee, it rained all day, my patients pissed me off, and my bad shoulder was killing me today- stupid arthritis. And then the worst happened….my mom called and told me my Great Aunt had just passed away. I literally stood in disbelief for a solid minute after I hung up the phone. After all the ups and downs with her, I really thought she would pull through this. But she didn’t. I spent most my afternoon in between my last few patients crying and then zoning out. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t want to believe it. This woman was like a grandmother to me. When I was younger and things weren’t so good between my parents, she helped raise me and my brother. We lived with her for a couple of years while my mom got things back together. My Great Aunt was always there for me and my family. I have so many great memories with her and I will never forget them. She was a wonderful woman and lived a very full and happy life. She was 83. I am mostly sad about all of this. I am angry though, too. I’m upset that she was a DNR. I’m upset that she didn’t want to fight anymore when she was looking so good just a few days ago. I’m upset that no one was there with her today when she passed away. I’m upset that I didn’t get to say goodbye to her. I’m upset that I will never hear her voice again or give her a hug. I’m not ready for her to be gone yet. I’m not sure I ever would be. But I definitely didn’t think it would happen this way.

I also had my last ballet classes tonight with Ms. Poe. Instead of just going home after work and spending the night crying and upset, I went to class. Dancing always has a way of taking my mind off things. So for two hours tonight I put my hurt and sadness aside and just danced. I turned the pain I was feeling into beautiful ballet. My Great Aunt would have been proud of me. Just like she always was when she saw me dance as a little girl.

Today, I turned pain into beauty. I love you Aunt Florence. I hope you know how much you impacted my life and just how much I really loved you. You will always be with me in my heart. You always have been. Even with all the pain and sadness I feel now, I’m glad you are not in pain anymore. Thank you for always being there and loving me unconditionally. I will always love you.

Crunch Time

I guess it’s time I face the music. I am NOT flexible what so ever. Ballet requires that you be flexible. So that leaves me with the dreaded fact that I need to buckle down and really start working on it. No more excuses. So by September 1, my goal is to have a set “stretching work out plan” to use at home. I have to somehow squeeze this into my already busy schedule of working full time, ballet classes 3x/week, spending time with my husband, and all the other stuff us adults get to deal with. But like I said, no more excuses. If I want my ballet technique to improve beyond what it is right now and in the future, I need to be more flexible. Period.

So, if anyone has any suggestions for me, I gladly appreciate it!! I’ve looked up various stretches on YouTube and the Internet, but I just can’t seem to figure out a good order to do them all in. Or which ones are most effective. So any advice or tips will greatly help!!

Disney App Review

I’ve never formally reviewed an App before, but here we go!!!!

I recently downloaded Disney’s own new app: My Disney Experience. I really like this app!! I’m pretty tech savvy, but I think that the app is very user friendly. I downloaded it on both my iPad and iPhone, and I like it on both!! The different screens are easy to navigate and the maps are very helpful!!! I like the interactive options and the different search options. You can sign in with your regular waltdisneyworld account. You can look up dining options and even make a reservation! The whole layout is there: cuisine type, cost, location, hours, experience type, etc. The parks are interactive through the map or by explore tab. This has so many features, it’s crazy!! You can look up each ride in the park you are looking at. Each ride selection will tell you where it’s located, if it uses fast passes, the fast pass times AVAILABLE right now, and the current wait times. Now, since I don’t live there or have had the opportunity to try this app out first hand there, I can’t comment on how accurate these features are. With this app being a part of Disney’s “NextGen” movement, it provides real time assessments using the wifi now available within the Magic Kingdom park. This app does not even compare to Disney’s first app, Mobile Magic. My Disney Experience is definitely in the forefront of technology on smart phones. The “Here & Now” feature allows you to see attractions, events, and shows based on your location. This is a fabulous feature for the family that has never been to Disney before or for the seasoned veteran who wants to make sure they hit everything in that area!!

Overall, I think Disney did a great job with this app. Everything in the app works and it has never crashed on me. Everything is easy to see and navigate through. This app is a must have for anyone visiting Disney. Currently, Disney has only released this app on Apple’s iTunes available on your iPhone, iPad, or iTouch. And the best part……it’s completely free!!!!! Disney says that this app is in the works for Disneyland for sometime in 2013.

Disney lovers and super planners enjoy!! I know I cannot wait to use this next year!!

Happy Anniversary!!!!

Today was my two year anniversary with Dr. Tooth!!! We have been together six years now, married for two. I can’t believe two years have gone by!! Seems like just yesterday I was planning like mad while finishing my finals for my Bachelor’s degree. I’m so lucky to have my husband. He is my best friend and always supports me in everything I do. I was very lucky to get not one, but two awesome gifts from him!! The first one was a beautiful Disney watch that I absolutely LOVE!!! And the second was a Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade Set #2 by Olszewski. So pretty!! I’m slowly but surely adding more pieces to my Disney collection.

Can’t upload the watch at this moment, but I will tomorrow!!!

On another good note, I had my two ballet classes tonight with Ms. Raven. I know, what a way to spend my anniversary!!! I had a great class!! I’m doing really well with all the combinations and barre exercises. I struggled a little bit with double frappes, yikes!!! Heck, I’m still trying to get the hang of single frappes!!! Next week is our last class for summer session, sigh. I’m still trying to figure out what classes and where I want to take in the fall.

Hope everyone is having a good start to their week!!! πŸ˜‰
